Nhon Hoi Economic Zone is in the Phuong Mai Peninsula, geographically defined in the approximate co-ordinates from 13045’ to 14001’ North and from 109011’ to 109017’ East. The natural area is about 12,000 hectares including the communes of Nhon Hoi, Nhon Ly, Nhon Hai, part of Hai Cang Ward (of Quy Nhon City), part of Tuy Phuoc District and Phu Cat District. It reaches the Ba Mountain to the North, and is bordered by the East Sea to the South and East, and by Thi Nai Lagoon to the West. The Phuong Mai Peninsula is a horizontal river islet which is stable and flood free all year round. The geological composition is good, mainly soft sand.

Having advantage from the specific position, from natural conditions, economic and social conditions and from Binh Dinh's infrastructure, Nhon Hoi Economic Zone has these prominent comparetive advantanges:

1.The land for building is large with over 6,000 hectares in area, most of which is high sandy soil without any flooding, with durable geological composition. There is no cultural relic nor solid building. As an isolated area, it is favourable for national defence. The sparse population makes land clearance easy for planning and cheap construction, creating competitive advantage for the investors when they lease land for manufacturing and business.

2. Nhon Hoi Economic Zone is adjacent to Quy Nhon (the second-grade city), only 6 km from the Quy Nhon center; therefore, the available infrastructure facilities and high quality services of Quy Nhon such as telecomunication, health care, etc. should be utilized for both business development and entertainment.

3. Nhon Hoi Economic Zone lies beside the deep seaport of Quy Nhon, with the advantage of a sheltered anchorage and a deep water docking area, where any 30,000 ton vessels can be picked up safely for arrival or departure. This port is only 5 nautical miles from buoy zero on the international voyage and lies in the center of the countries in the South East Asian region and East Asian region. From Quy Nhon, there are over 10 sea routes which connect to international ports such as: Hong Kong, Manila,Singapore, Bangkok, Kaohsiung, Tokyo, Vladivostok, etc.

The Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Conference held in Chiangmai (Thailand) in June 1993 designated the Quy Nhon - Nhon Hoi Port as a sea port of the South East Asian region, and as the transport link of Asian route: from Quy Nhon to Pleiku, Kon Tum, Pakse (Laos), and then to the Mekong River, Udon (Thailand) and intersects at Malaysia - Myanmar Road.

As planned, Quy Nhon - Nhon Hoi seaport system will be constructed for the capacity of 5 - 6 million tonnes of cargos in 2010 and up to 15 million in 2020. In the future, on its completion, the Nhon Hoi Port will support the existing Quy Nhon Port, the quantity of cargos will increase and the new sea routes approaching the these ports will be established. Accordingly, the trade exchange through the national sea transport will also increase respectively, which, in turn, will contribute to the regional development.

4. Located in the favourable area, the southern development pole of the Central Pivotal Economic Zone, Quy Nhon - Nhon Hoi closely connects to National Road 19, Duc Co Border Gate (Gia Lai), and Bo Y Border Gate Economic Zone (Kon Tum) which form the East - West corridor of the Greater Mekong Subregion, and is the development triangle between Vietnam - Laos - Cambodia and the Northeastern region of Thailand. Therefore, Nhon Hoi Economic Zone, besides the economic linking relations with the economic zones of Chu Lai, Dung Quat in the North, Van Phong in the South, has the economic linking relations with the large western hinterland. Therefore, it has the favourable conditions for attracting any investment for development.
